At our 13th Annual Youth Justice Rally, we mobilized youth to fight the systemic inequities revealed by COVID-19. We will not simply shelter in place and wait for the world to “go back to normal,” because that “normal” meant ignorance to daily acts of oppression. Not even a year ago, most people weren’t aware of how much economic inequity, racialized policing, or the housing crisis impacts our lives. Employment, criminalization, housing, and education affect us all just as much as the pandemic. We deserve better than what we had before, so we came together—at the statehouse and online—to fight for a better future.
